14 Days Classic Uganda Rwanda Primate Tour

Experience the playful chimpanzees of Kibale forests, drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park’s beautiful savannah plains and take Africa’s wild memories with you,  then transfer to Bwindi impenetrable for the unforgettable mountain gorilla trekking experience and heighten the safari crossing over to Rwanda into the Nyungwe forest for more gorilla trekking adventure.

We would like you to arrive at Papyrus Guest House in the late afternoon / evening, get to know your fellow travellers, go through the briefing and have dinner. Overnight stay at Papyrus Guest House, Meal Plan: BB
After breakfast with driver/guide will set off to Western Uganda, to Fort Portal. This lively town is the base for activities around Kibale Forest National Park. The national park offers one of the most varied tracts of tropical forest in Uganda, 70 mammal species and 13 primate species. The drive takes 5 to 7 hours so we will arrive in time in Fort Portal for lunch. After lunch we will shake off the long drive with a walk to the “top of the world” along crater lakes which this area is also famous for. Accommodation: Kibale Forest Camp Tents. An early start and a long day are ahead of you! Today you will track chimpanzees and will not only learn about them but also about the flora and fauna of the national park. After the tracking, equipped with a packed lunch you will drive towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is the most popular park in Uganda as it offers diverse ecosystems, classic big game, and 10 primate species and over 600 bird species. You will drive leisurely southwards; explore the park in an extensive game drive. Accommodation: Kasenyi safari camp Meal plan: Full board
As you are warming up for the gorilla tracking, we will have an early morning game drive and later transfer to mweya peninsular for kazinga channel cruise which will offer an opportunity to spot a lot of game including members of the big five like elephants, hippos, buffaloes among other. Later we drive further south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is of Uganda´s oldest and most diverse rainforests. The “impenetrable” forest is also home to more than 320 mountain gorillas, 400 species of plants, 120 species of mammals and over 350 species of birds. Accommodation Mahogany springs FB
Walking safari from buhoma to nkuringo In Buhoma which is the northern side of the park you will meet our Nkuringo Walking Safari guide who will walk with you 7 hours through the forest to Nkuringo, on the southern side. Your safari guide will meanwhile drive around to the lodge and will meet you there so we recommend you pack a little day pack as chances are high that you will arrive before him. The most exciting day of your safari, the briefing is at 8 am and you will learn about gorilla etiquette. And then you will start walking and hiking in the impenetrable forest until you find the gorillas. For one hour you are allowed to watch those majestic giants! Depending on the duration of the track you can either relax in the afternoon at the lodge and just enjoy the view or go for another walk around and explore the village or walk up to the highest football field with the best view ever. Today you will take it a little easier by exploring the area around Nkuringo. You will spend the whole day walking and canoeing but after yesterday´s hike today is really a walk. Our Nkuringo Walking Safari guide will take you past villages, farms, churches at your own pace. Once you reach Lake Mutanda, enjoy your packed lunch before you get into the dugout canoes (life vests are provided and you do not need to paddle) that will take you to the other side. Sit back, relax, stick a foot into the water and enjoy. Overnight at Mgahinga Community Camp. Full board.
After breakfast proceed to Mgahinga National Park head- quarters for briefing to the start a Volcano climb of Mount Sabinyo. Mt. Sabinyo, at 3,669m, takes about eight hours to cover the 14km round trip, following a steep ridge up to the peak this trek will be conducted in the company of your Nkuringo Walking Safari guide. Meet up with your vehicle to transfer to Musanze across the Cyanika Uganda/Rwanda border. Our destination today is Musanze/Ruhengeri at the foothills of Volcanoes National Park, the home of Rwanda’s population of mountain gorillas. Accommodation at Muhabura Hotel. Meal Plan – Full board arrangement
This is one of the world’s truly memorable experiences the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park are part of a worldwide population of just about 800 individuals. The gorillas are by no means tame, and are completely wild animals. Experienced guides will accompany the encounter. Many of them have been involved in the habituation process themselves. The guides will use their knowledge of the gorilla’s habits and information from the previous day to locate the groups’ whereabouts. Because of this, the time required to track the gorillas varies enormously, from as little as one hour. a look into one of these magnificent creature’s eyes brings home the poignant fact that they are on the edge of extinction, and that our presence here contributes to ensuring their continued survival. Today we have variety offers golden monkeys, visit Mt. Visoke or visit the Karisoke Research Center. This afternoon, continue exploring the cultural highlights of this area and visit the Iby Iwachu Cultural Centre for cultural dancing and an informative experience about traditional local medicine. This cultural group was formed by pygmies and ex-poachers and we shall listen to their side of the story after abandoning the illegal practice. Overnight: at Muhabura hotel .(FB) – mid – high end
Early morning breakfast then leave Ruhengeri and proceed to Gisenyi traversing a scenic countryside with beautiful views of volcanoes and the rift valley. After lunch we continue to Nyungwe, Nyungwe is the largest high altitude montane forest in East and central Africa with a record breaking 13 primate species including Chimpanzees, Rwenzori colubus monkeys and Hoests monkey. With 300 species of birds of which 24 are albertine rift endemics and 100 species of orchids this forest is a great eco-tourist centre. After dinner,we retire for the night,lulled to sleep by the sounds of one of Africas most incredible natural environments. Dinner and overnight at Top View Hotel. Meal Plan: Full board arrangement
Early morning activity the Chimpanzee trek in its natural Forest, later we return to the lodge. In the afternoon we have an option of enjoying a canopy walk or tracking Colobus monkeys. Dinner and overnight at Top View Hotel. Mid-range accommodation Meal Plan: Full board arrangement
This morning, you will have a hearty breakfast and you will be guided by the ranger to the canopy walk, later after the after activity, you will check out and proceed to Kigali city with possible visit to the Genocide memorial. To later transfer to Kigali International Airport for evening Flight.
